How to turn a complex mechanical system into a sales tool | 3D videos for moulds

When a product’s key benefit lies in its movement, demonstrating it is often more effective than describing it.
For M3D, we produced two 3D videos focusing on synchronised mechanical systems for injection moulds, transforming technical information, CAD models and the client’s specifications into visual content designed to make the system’s operation and benefits immediately clear.
The challenge
A mechanical system may have significant technical features, but these are not always easy to convey to an outside observer.
In the case of M3D systems, some of the key benefits stem precisely from the synchronised movement of the components, which helps to counteract misalignments and achieve greater precision during mould operation.
For marketing and sales, the challenge therefore becomes:
to explain a complex mechanical principle without overcomplicating the message;
to show what happens inside the mould;
to highlight the synchronised movement of the components;
to link the technical operation to tangible benefits;
to make the message understandable to an international audience.
It is not enough simply to show the product.
We need to demonstrate why it works and why it can make a difference.

The solution
Using the CAD models and technical documentation provided by the client, we created a visual sequence designed to guide the viewer from the complete system to an understanding of how it works.
3D technology allows us to overcome the limitations of traditional filming: we can virtually remove plates and components, enter the mould, isolate key elements and use dynamic cross-sections to reveal what would normally remain hidden.
In the video, movement thus becomes part of the explanation.
The system is not simply presented: it is demonstrated in operation right before the viewer’s eyes.
Highlighting the benefits
In the M3D side table, synchronised movement helps to maintain flatness during extension, counteracting misalignment and imbalance. Among the benefits highlighted by M3D are uniform extension, reduced wear, a smaller footprint and greater reliability.
This is precisely where 3D animation becomes a marketing tool.
A phrase such as ‘synchronised movement’ simply describes a feature.
However, seeing the components move simultaneously, observing the transmission through the mechanical elements and understanding its effect on the system allows you to appreciate its value.
Where it can be used
Content of this kind can support various stages of technical and commercial communication:
Sales and commercial presentations: Sales staff can explain how the system works without relying solely on technical drawings or lengthy descriptions.
Trade fairs and events: The movement captures attention and allows visitors to quickly grasp the principle behind the solution, even without a continuous explanation from staff.
Websites and landing pages: The video can accompany product sheets and technical content, transforming features that are difficult to visualise into immediately comprehensible information.
Presentations to international clients: When functionality and benefits are conveyed primarily through images and movement, reliance on text is reduced.
Technical training: Cross-sections, exploded views and animations enable the analysis of components and mechanisms that are difficult to observe on the actual product.

The benefits
The advantage of 3D is not merely aesthetic.
It allows you to structure your communication around what needs to be understood:
Show what is normally hidden: Plates and components can be virtually removed or dissected.
Explaining movement: Synchronisation becomes visible rather than simply being described.
Focusing attention: The viewer sees only the necessary elements at each stage of the explanation.
Transforming technical features into perceptible benefits: Precision, synchronisation, flatness and space-saving become visual concepts.
Overcoming the language barrier: When mechanical dynamics are shown correctly, much of the explanation is conveyed directly through the images.
One piece of content, multiple communication tools: The same project can generate full-length videos, short clips, images, technical details and content for websites, trade fairs, presentations and social media

Behind the solution
The starting point is not the animation itself.
It is an understanding of the product.
CAD models, drawings, technical specifications and material provided by the client are analysed to identify which movements need to be shown, in what order and from which angle.
From this information, we construct the visual narrative: opening of the mould, removal of components, cross-sections, synchronised movements, details of the kinematic mechanisms and views focusing on the most technically significant points.
The aim is to ensure the communication remains technically consistent, whilst at the same time being easy to follow.
AI + control
Artificial intelligence can support certain stages of the creative and production process, but in technical visualisation, control remains essential.
AI + technical supervision means:
Consistent output: The visualisation must adhere to actual geometries and characteristics.
Controlled movements: Kinematics and sequences must accurately represent how the system operates.
More effective communication: Technology and creativity are used to simplify the message without altering its technical content.
Replicable content: Once the 3D design has been created, the same design language can be extended to other products, variants and applications.

Do you have a product that’s difficult to explain?
When the value of a solution is hidden inside a mould, a machine or a mechanical system, a photograph can showcase the product.
A 3D animation can show how it works, what happens inside it and why it offers an advantage.
Using CAD, we create content that helps people understand, sell and showcase technical products.
FST 3D — We make the complex, the hidden and the difficult-to-explain visible.
