From a technical drawing to a 3D animation for showcasing innovative packaging

Comparison between a 3D CAD model and a photorealistic rendering of food packaging created from a 2D technical die.

The challenge

A packaging manufacturer had developed a new cardboard food packaging solution and wanted to present it to customers in a clear, dynamic, and engaging way.

The goal was to explain the packaging design, its functionality, how it is used, and its potential applications through a high-impact presentation lasting less than one minute.

The client only provided the 2D die-cut drawing in DWG format, used for manufacturing the packaging, without any existing 3D model.

The solution

Starting from the client's 2D die-cut drawing, we digitally reconstructed the entire packaging in 3D, modeling every detail and simulating how it opens, closes, and is used.

The project included:

  • 3D reconstruction from the 2D die-cut drawing;

  • complete modeling of the packaging and its components;

  • animation of the opening and closing mechanism;

  • simulation of food placement inside the package;

  • visualization of different usage configurations;

  • comparison between the technical drawing and the final photorealistic rendering;

  • production of the final 3D animation for marketing and sales presentations.

The result is a visual presentation that clearly communicates the product's features, functionality, and benefits without the need for lengthy technical explanations.

The benefits

✔ Present new packaging before production begins

✔ Transform a simple technical die-cut drawing into a powerful communication tool

✔ Explain the product in less than one minute

✔ Highlight the design, functionality, and usability of the packaging

✔ Reduce the need for physical prototypes during the sales process

✔ Create visual content that can be reused across multiple marketing channels

Behind the Solution

Not every project starts with a 3D CAD model.

In this case, we transformed a simple two-dimensional die-cut drawing into a complete 3D model, accurately recreating every fold, locking feature, and structural detail of the packaging.

We then animated the packaging to demonstrate how it opens, closes, and functions, producing a 3D animation that immediately communicates its value.

This approach transforms a technical manufacturing document into an effective marketing and sales communication tool.
